Description of ASTM-C1080 2008ASTM C1080 - 98(2008)Standard Specification for Asbestos-Cement Products Other Than Fill For Cooling TowersActive Standard ASTM C1080 | Developed by Subcommittee: C17.03 Book of Standards Volume: 04.05 ASTM C1080Abstract This specification covers various classes of asbestos-cement products (other than fill for cooling towers) such as drift eliminators or demisters, louvers, partitioning and casing panels, pressure pipes, and nonpressure or gravity drainage pipes. Products cured at atmospheric pressure or by autoclaving are also covered. Products shall adhere to the following tests and property requirements: apparent density, water absorption, flexural strength, modulus of rupture, freeze-thaw resistance, Harkort test, and dimensions. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers drift eliminators or demisters, louvers, partitioning and casing panels. Note 1Asbestos-cement pipes are covered in Specifications C 296 and C 428 ; and asbestos-cement heat exchange fill products are covered in Specification C 1082 for flat fill and Specification C 1081 for corrugated fill.
1.2 The following classes of products are covered:
1.2.1 Products cured at atmospheric pressure or by autoclaving are covered. 1.3 The values stated in the SI system are to be regarded as the standard. The inch-pound units in parentheses are provided for information only. 1.4 Warning Breathing of asbestos dust is hazardous. Asbestos and asbestos products present demonstrated health risks for users and for those with whom they come into contact. In addition to other precautions, when working with asbestos-cement products, minimize the dust that results. For information on the safe use of chrysoltile asbestos, refer to Safe Use of Chrysotile Asbestos: A Manual on Preventive and Control Measures. 1.5 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test method portion of this specification (Section 5): This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For a specific safety hazard, see 1.4.
