Description of ASTM-D2686 2012ASTM D2686 - 06(2012)Standard Specification for Polytetrafluoroethylene-Backed Pressure-Sensitive Electrical Insulating TapeActive Standard ASTM D2686 | Developed by Subcommittee: D09.07 Book of Standards Volume: 10.02 ASTM D2686Abstract This specification establishes the manufacture of and requirements for two types and two grades of electrical insulating tape consisting of a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film coated on one side with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Type I is standard backing, while Type II is bondable backing tape. Grades are designate based on backing thickness. Besides standard lengths, widths, and thicknesses, tapes shall also conform to other requirements such as breaking strength, elongation, adhesion to steel and backing, dielectric breakdown, and high-humidity insulation resistance. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers electrical insulating tape consisting of a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film coated on one side with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. Note 1This standard is similar to IEC 60454-3-14.
